Speaker Meets Counterpart in India, 29 March 2017

Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Prof. Peter H. Katjavivi has met the Speaker of the House of the People (Lok Sabha) of the Republic of India, Hon. Simitra Mahajan.

The two held official talks on various issues of mutual interest. Hon. Katjavivi who invited his counterpart to visit Namibia further appealed for capacity building support for both Parliament staff and Members of Parliament.

Speaker Mahajan on her part congratulated Namibia’s achievements since independence and was fascinated by the work of the Namibian Parliament particularly the initiated Children’s

Parliament, which she feels is inculcating democratic values in the minds of the Youth. She also commended Namibia’s high representation of women Parliamentarians.

Speaker Katjavivi and his Delegation that includes MPs were later honoured with a banquet where they met their counterparts and members of the Indian executive.

Hon. Katjavivi is en-route to the 136th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly to be held in Dhaka, Bangladesh from the 1st to 5th April 2017.
