Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Prof. Peter H. Katjavivi officially launched the Parliament of Namibia website on 19 May 2017.

The development of the new website is a collaborative effort between the Parliament of Namibia, Namibia University of Science and Technology and was realized with financial and technical support from the Parliamentary Support Programme initiated by the European Commission in cooperation with the Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation in Namibia.

The website contains detailed information about Parliament and its legislative processes. It is also hosting a Legal Database of all Acts of Parliament and Regulations that are applicable to Namibia. The Speaker stated that the website aims to give up-to-date information to Parliament, the public, development partners, civil society and other stakeholders. “The Parliament’s website should enhance, strengthen and project positive visibility of Parliament. We need it to be accessed and we need feedback” he said.

The Dean of Computing and Informatics at NUST, Dr. Anicia Peters in turn lauded the Faculty’s staff and students and other stakeholders who developed the website. “This website is testimony of what our talented Namibians can achieve and proof of the applicability of our reaching” she remarked.

Hon. Bernard Sibalatani, the Vice Chairperson of the National Council urged parliamentarians and the public to take full advantage of the wealth of the information contained in the new website to enhance their legislative work and public participation in parliamentary processes.
