Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) paid a courtesy call on the Chairperson of the National Council, Hon. Margareth Mensah-Williams today at the National Council Administration Building.
The meeting aimed to enhance the long-standing friendship between the CPPCC and the National Council as well as strengthen communication on the management of social and legal affairs between Namibia and China.
The CPPCC six-member delegation, led by Hon. Meng Xuenong, member of the Standing Committee of the National Committee of the CPPCC and Director of the CPPCC Committee of Social and Legal Affairs, was accompanied by the Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, H.E Hon. Zhang Yiming as well as other Embassy personnel.
Speaking at the meeting, Hon. Mensah-Williams touched on issues of law, policies and administration that the National Council can exchange with the CPPCC, especially on Customary Law given the strong cultural roots of the Chinese people. Mensah-Williams also highlighted matters of economic empowerment, skills exchange, food production and gender equality as significant areas to delve into.
Head of the delegation, Hon. Xuenong identified the three key objectives of the visit to Namibia as; strengthening the relations between the CPPCC and National Council, explore the investment environment of Namibia to make it possible for Chinese Communists to invest here as well as to exchange in the legal sphere, gender equality and cooperation.

Hon. Ambrosius Kandjii, Chairperson of the National Council Standing Committee on Gender, Youth and ICT was also present at the meeting as his portfolio entails the strategic objectives of the meeting with regards to gender and other social issues. Both parties are keen to reinforce the friendship they enjoy currently and share similar sentiments with regards to gender equality as well as legal and social issues.
The CPPCC consists of representatives of the CPC and non-Communist parties, personages without party affiliation, and representatives of people's organizations, ethnic minorities and various social strata. A majority of the CPPCC members are experienced political figures, social celebrities, experts and scholars specializing in various fields. CPPCC members serve as advisors for the government and legislative and judicial organs, and put forward proposals on major political and social issues in the world's most populous nation and second largest economy.
