Windhoek – The Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Prof. Peter Katjavivi visited the widow of the late member of parliament, Hon. Ignatius Shiwameni to offer his condolences on behalf of the National Assembly. Hon. Shiwameni died on Wednesday during a committee meeting at parliament.
Hon. Katjavivi noted that the National Assembly is saddened by the passing of Hon. Shiwameni, who was one of the long standing members. He added that his commitment to the work of the legislature was undisputable. “It is noteworthy to observe that Hon. Shiwameni died while on duty. This is typical of him”, said Katjavivi.
A minute of silence was observed in his memory during the resumption of the sitting of the National Assembly on the day that he died followed by an adjournment of the house in tribute. Hon. Shixwameni was a member of parliament since 1999.
He was 55 years old.
The Speaker equally paid tribute to former President of South Africa, Hon. FW De Klerk who died on the Thursday (11/11/21). Hon. Katjavivi praised De Klerk for paving the way for a new South Africa. “He seized a historic moment and unexpectedly rose to the occasion, playing an important role in paving the way for a new South Africa”, said Hon. Katjavivi.
