The Secretariat is the National Assembly’s administrative arm that oversees the day-to-day administration, directs the technical services, advises the Speaker, Chamber, Committees and MPs. It provides services to Members of Parliament and supports, informs and records their work in Committees and/or the Whole House in accordance with standing rules and decisions of the House.
The Secretariat makes the work and information about the National Assembly widely accessible to Members, and in prescribed ways, provides information to the general public in order to contribute to and enhance transparency, accountability and parliamentary democracy in Namibia.
By sharing this knowledge with parliaments and assemblies worldwide, the Secretariat, through its own publications and website, provides a platform for the broader public to be involved in the work and results of the Namibian Parliament.
As part of its fiduciary responsibility, the Secretariat maintains the structures and heritage of Parliamentary buildings,files and documents in its trust for Members use, public use and for the use of future generations.
