The recent misinformation being circulated particularly through social media that the National Assembly ‘is going on holiday next week’ is factually incorrect. As it has been the tradition over the years, the National Assembly has two sessions per year.
The 30th June was declared as the International Day of Parliamentarism in 2018 by the United Nations General Assembly by Resolution 72/278 as it coincides with the day in 1889, close to 131years ago, that the IPU (the global organization of parliaments) was founded.
A story published on the front page of today (Monday 21 September, 2020) edition of The Namibian newspaper under the heading “‘KATJAVIVI ACQUIRES MACHINE TO ‘MUTE UNRULY’ MPS’, has reference. The story contained misinformation intended to mislead the readers.
