BENCHMARKING VIST OF THE PARLIAMENTARY STANDING COMMITTEE ON CONSTITUTIONAL AND LEGAL AFFAIRS TO PARLIAMENT OF GHANA
To enhance its function, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs is on a benchmarking visit to Parliament of Ghana.
The delegation, led by Hon. Paula Kooper aims to gain insights and implementation of regulatory frameworks related to human rights, rule of law, access to justice, and procedures on how to deal with petitions and motions referred to parliament. The Committee believes that these are key areas that will help Namibia to reform its legal system in order to provide effective and efficient services to its citizens by strengthening its operational strategies through learning best practice.
The visit began with observing proceedings session of Parliament of Ghana before an informative presentation and engagement with staff from the Law Reform Commission of Ghana and further culminated at the Economic and Organised Crime (EOCD)’s various Units, and Departments, highlighting their various departmental policies, procedures and approaches to issues pertaining to organised crime and financial crime and explored ways of strengthening the justice system.
During this visit, the Committee will engage in productive dialogue, discussing the potential for collaborative development between their parliamentary counterparts to explore opportunities for mutual growth, knowledge sharing, and the implementation of best practices to enhance the Committee’s mandate and functions.
This benchmarking visit not only provided the Committee with invaluable insights but also laid the groundwork for future collaborations. By learning from Ghana’s exemplary practices, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Constitutional and Legal Affairs aims to elevate its functions to ensuring better service delivery through its parliamentary supervision and oversight on the policies, laws and programmes of the government as mandated.
