Speaker expresses condolences on the death of former Ghanaian President Jerry Rawlings

Windhoek - Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Prof. Peter Katjavivi today (17/11/2020) signed the book of condolences at the Ghana High Commission opened for the late Former President of that country, H.E. Jerry Rawlings.

The Speaker described Rawlings as an exemplary leader who inspired and contributed immensely to the attainment of independence in Namibia. He further noted that Rawlings laid the groundwork for the excellent bilateral relations enjoyed by the two countries today.

“The late Jerry Rawlings is held in a high esteem in Namibia for his contribution to the liberation of our country. Ghana has always been a source of political inspiration to the people of Namibia, as exemplified by the excellent cordial relationship that exists between our two countries”, said Hon. Katjavivi.

The late Rawlings died at the age of 73 in the capital city of Accra after a short illness. The country has announced a week of mourning.
