Parliamentary Chief Whips meet their counterparts in Ghana

As part of its efforts to increase its institutional capacity to deliver on its mandate, the National Council will receive a needed boost as a five-member delegation comprising of Chief Whip, Whips and Members of Parliament in the National Council are in Accra Ghana for a week long benchmarking study to the Parliament of Ghana.

The high powered delegation led by the Chief Whip of the ruling party Hon. Lebbius Tobias is provided with an opportunity to learn from the best experiences employed by the Parliament of Ghana and their counterparts in particular.

During this reciprocal visit, the MPs from the National Council are interested in the areas of Parliamentary Whip system of the Ghanaian Parliament as well as strengthening the cooperation between the two institutions.

In 2017, a delegation led by Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh - Majority Chief Whip in the Parliament of Ghana visited the Parliament of Namibia particularly the National Council on the same purpose.


The week long benchmarking study visit of the Namibian delegation started on 18 June 2018 and will go until 22 June 2018.

The Namibian delegation paid a Courtesy Call to Namibia’s Higher Commissioner in Ghana H.E Charles Josob and briefed him on the purpose of the visit. The two parties further held discussion over the importance of establishing, promoting and maintaining relationships with other countries and institutions as well as the need for capacity building.

Before meeting their Ghanaian counterparts , the visiting delegation also paid a Courtesy Call on the First Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana Hon. Joseph Osei-Owusu and introduced their purpose of coming to the Parliament of Ghana .

In the meeting with their counterparts they held discussions over the whip system of the Parliament of Ghana and how well it can fit Namibia, particularly the National Council.

The other members of the delegation are: the Whip of Popular Democratic Movement Hon. Nguzu Muharukua, the Whip of NUDO Hon. Peter Kazongominja, Hon. Phillipus Katamelo a Member of Parliament in the National Council and Hon. Joyce Namuhuja also a Member of Parliament in the National Council.
