Public Hearing on the Safety of Minor Offenders in Custody

As part of its oversight function, the National Council Parliamentary Standing Committee on Gender, Youth and Information Communication Technology will be conducting public hearings and visits to prisons/police cells from the 7-11 July, 2014 in the Kavango East, Ohangwena, Oshana and Otjozondjupa Region(s).

The Terms of Reference for the committee are to:

1.Determine the measures to be implemented to ensure that the rights of minor children are protected and their safety ensured when their mothers are in custody and no relative or friend is willing or able to care for such children;
2.Establish the current status of the safe houses and shelters; and
3.Establish the adherence of the state to the rights of the child with respect to the justice system.

Day 1
Monday, 07 July: Kavango Region
