His Excellency, President Hage Geingob delivering his speech at Parliament today to mark the official opening of this year’s Parliament today

His Excellency, President Hage Geingob officially opened the 7th Session of the 6th Parliament under the theme “Enhancing Partnerships to Strengthen Good Governance in Namibia today 13th February 2018.
In his speech, President Hage Geingob, urged Members of Parliament to pay particular attention to the agenda and to ensure that the Bills tabled are thoroughly debated and passed timeously. The President stressed the importance of accountability and transparency whilst keeping in mind the Executive theme for 2018 – The Year of Reckoning, which includes due recognition for delivery and consequences for non-delivery. “I would like to urge the frugal use of resources at our disposal, in the Executive, Judiciary and Legislative, as a means to reverse the financial constraints that have resulted from economic headwinds faced over the past three years.
His Excellency, President Hage Geingob stated that he is looking forward to quality debate around the following Bills: The Education Bill, Plant Breeders and Farmers’ Rights Bill, Financial Institution and Market Bill and Prevention of Torture Bill.
President Geingob further stressed the importance of stakeholder consultation as a prerequisite for good governance and that Parliament being at the heart of inclusive and representative democracy, has an obligation to timeously transmit information and engage its constituents on matters on the agenda of the House and to uphold national interest in deliberations.
