Members of Parliament of the National Assembly of Burkina Faso on a study Visit to the National Council
Story by Pamela Mate A delegation comprising Members of Parliament and staff from the National Assembly of Burkina Faso are on a study visit to the National Council. Earlier today (4 November 2019), the delegation paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chairperson of the National Council, Hon. Bernard Sibalatani, together with National Council MPs who serve in the Standing Committee on Gender Youth and ICT. Hon. Sibalatani expressed appreciation for that country’s visit to the National Council and shared with the visitors the mandate of National Council which he said was to review Bills and conduct oversight on the work of the executive to ensure that they remain responsive to the needs of the people. “We have the responsibility to account to our electorates as we are elected by the people”, said Sibalatani. The delegation from the west African nation said they look forward to share experiences with and learn best practices from Namibia. The visitors will also visit the National Assembly as well as other entities such as the Namibia Diamond Trading Company and the SADC PF offices. The study visit is expected to end this Friday, 8 November 2019. |

Story by Pamela Mate Following the Swapo Party vacancy in the National Council, the House this morning witnessed the swearing-in of new member, Hon. Alfeus Kaushiweni Abraham. Hon. Abraham replaces the late Hon. Lotto Kuushomwa whose seat remained vacant following his death in May this year. Hon. Abraham hails from the Oshana region, where he is the Regional Councillor of the Ondangwa Rural Constituency. The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by Justice Sylvester Mainga. |
