Members of the Pan-African parliament are gathered at the parliament’s headquarter in Midrand, Johannesburg, South Africa for the Sitting of the Pan-African Parliament Permanent Committee and other Organs.
The Sitting is convening under the African Union (AU) theme for 2025: “Justice for Africans and People Descent Through Reparations,” a theme which was adopted during the 36th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly of Heads of States and Government held on 17-18 February 2024, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Pan-African Parliament (PAP) and the African Union Commission (AUC) justified the theme to be both timely and critical I the ongoing struggle for social justice, equity, and historical recognition on the African continent.
Additionally, members attended a workshop diving into the theme of the year to provide highlight on the activities within the roadmap, providing an opportunity to discuss key roles that members of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) can play in contributing to the implementation of the roadmap on the theme of the year for 2025 with the aim to deepen understanding of reparatory and its implications for sustainable development and social cohesion , discuss the legal, political, and economic dimensions of reparations and the role of national parliament. Members notably explored best practices and global experiences in seeking reparative justice.
