The Chairperson of the National Council, Hon Lukas Sinimbo Muha, on Monday, welcomed a delegation of MPs from the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, led by Hon. Elena Perminova, Chairperson of the Committee on Social Policy and Head of the Friendship Group for Cooperation.
The visit, described by Hon. Muha, as a significant milestone, underscores the deepening relationship between the two nations and their legislative bodies.
Discussions during the Courtesy Call to the Chairperson focused on the implementation of agreements between the Federation Council and the National Council of Namibia, aimed at fostering closer legislative ties and sharing best practices. Both parties expressed optimism about future collaborations, particularly in technological innovation for parliamentary operations under Namibia’s E-Parliament Strategy.
The visit reciprocates the diplomatic gestures made by both nations, including Namibia’s participation in Russia’s presidential election observation missions, reinforcing mutual respect and cooperation in international affairs. Hon. Muha congratulated Russia for its recent successful presidential election and independence celebrations.On her part, Hon. Yelena Perminova highlighted the strategic importance of the parliamentary exchange, emphasising the stable and trust-based political dialogue between Russia and Namibia.
She underscored the role of ongoing delegation exchanges and collaborative efforts in healthcare, education, and social policy as critical to furthering bilateral ties.The delegation will also embark on a series of meetings this week to deepen cooperation in health and social policies between Russia and Namibia. The discussions will focus on comparing operational frameworks and exchanging best practices to enhance mutual understanding and benefit.
In addition to these diplomatic engagements, the delegation paid respects at the Heroes Acre where they laid a wreath. This solemn gesture symbolises the delegation’s recognition of Namibia’s historical leaders and their contributions to the nation’s independence and development.
