A three-day training workshop for the National Assembly Select Committee on budget focusing on public financial management, the budget process and oversight is currently underway.
The workshop is organized in collaboration with the Enhancing Participatory Democracy in Namibia (EPDN) programme, which is a partnership programme of the European Union and the Government of Namibia. The training workshop is aimed at empowering members of the select committee with the necessary knowledge and skills for sourcing the needed financial resources for the institution and ensuring efficient and optimal utilization of such resources.
The select committee will among others be responsible for reviewing the budgetary estimates required for the operations of the National Assembly before such estimates are submitted to the Ministry of Finance for approval. It will also form part of the Speaker’s consultations with the Minister of Finance and the Director General of the National Planning Commission.
